Our Story

About Kengu

Kengu is a business created by wife and husband combo, Arceili and Duane to inspire others and perpetuate the spirit of artisan crafts. Kengu is the brainchild of Arceili, a lifelong crocheter and fashion enthusiast who dabbles in all sorts of crafts including sewing, gardening and photography.

Arceili started working with yarns and was hooked from a young age in the Philippines. Her mission is to make crochet for the modern generation. Through the years, she has travelled the world and developed a keen eye for East Asian fashion aesthetics. Now based in Australia, she brings her love of crochet and yarns to a new generation through eco-friendly natural dyes and a fresh look on crochet accessories and apparel blended with Japanese design elements.

“Her mission is to make crochet for the modern generation.”

Arceili is also supported by her husband, Duane, who assists with the natural dye research and their faithful labradoodle Kara, the ever-present craft studio buddy and mascot. Kara is always hanging around keeping an eye on every stitch and step of the dye process (at least in her own mind).
